Member Profile: Malcolm G Bates (d 2000) |
So, if the Broadbents are the
parents of the Lindsey Rural Players, then Malcolm G Bates must be the
mid-wife! It was this man who, in 1969, wanted to stage Oliver!
and he approached the ailing Holton Players for help. When
Malcolm delivered this unique bunch of youngsters for this 'one off
production', it was the Broadbents along with five former members of
the Holton Players who decided to form LRP and thus ensure that this
newly born band of talented youngsters had a future.
Always one to step in and save the day, Malcolm is remembered for donning dress and wig and playing Mrs Corney in Oliver! when the original actress was unable to play it one night due to illness. He is said to have been so good that many of the audience didn't notice anything unusual! |
