Since she moved to Middle Rasen in January 1995 Chris always meant to audition for LRP, but may never have done so if Gail Dennis hadn’t persuaded her to sell ice creams during Mother Goose in 2001. Chris was hooked by the atmosphere at the Broadbent, and she performed for the first time in Another Evening of Intimate Theatre that June. It was the start of what Chris describes as a fantastic year. She says she has enjoyed everything she has done with LRP, but Marian in Toe in the Water will always be special as she was such an enjoyable character, and doing Shakespeare for the first time with LRP was wonderful, especially playing the strong-willed Mistress Ford. Chris’s interest in the theatre dates back to school, where she was lucky enough to land the parts of Jennet in The Lady’s Not for Burning, Beatrice in Much Ado, and Eliza in Pygmalion. She spent a couple of years working at Shell, mostly because of their Dramatic Society, The Lensbury Players, and played Lulu in The Birthday Party, the daughter in Six Characters in Search of an Author, and Virginia Crawford in the Victorian political drama The Right Honourable Gentleman. Before she moved to Lincolnshire Chris lived in Scotland for 16 years, where her main production was her son, Christopher. On Summer Sundays Chris is often found indoors watching Formula One racing, but misses Murray Walker– he is her first choice of person to be stranded with on a desert island. “He knows so much about the sport and could tell some wonderful anecdotes about the personalities. And it probably wouldn’t bother him that I’d not been able to wax my legs”. she explains. |
