After leaving De Aston school Simon read Law at Queens' College, Cambridge and then became a trainee Director at the King’s Head, Islington. As Director shows include Slag (Finborough) and Desires of Frankenstein (Regent’s Park and Pleasance Theatre, Edinburgh), as well as numerous readings and workshops for various new writing companies, including the International Playwriting Festival and Writing Out! Awards. As Assistant Director he has worked on 8 productions of the West End hit Art, as well as Credible Witness (Royal Court) and the latest UK tour of Blues Brothers. As Resident Assistant Director for the 2001 season at the Open Air Theatre, Regent’s Park, he worked on Midsummer Night’s Dream, Loves Labours Lost, Where’s Charley? and Pirates of Penzance. As Staff Director for D’Oyly Carte Opera he worked on Iolanthe and The Yeomen of the Guard (both at the Savoy Theatre). He is a member of the Young Vic Director’s Forum and regularly directs drama school productions and facilitates drama based workshops for East-Side Educational Trust. Simon was Assistant Director for the new musical Beautiful and Damned which opened in Guildford prior to it's West-End transfer. |
