We get all kinds of phone calls here at the box office for the Broadbent Theatre so when the phone rang on this occasion I handled it with the usual amount of professionalism.
Me: Hello, Broadbent Theatre.
Caller: Hello. Is that Wickenby?
Me: Yes, that’s right.
Caller: Scampton here. May we have permission for our Tornados to fly low over your air space?
Me: Yes. That’s fine by me.
Caller: Thank you. We’ll be 5 or 10 minutes.

On reflection I think that perhaps the caller thought he was talking to Wickenby Airfield. We are on 01673 885500 and the airfield is 01673 885000. What a difference a five instead of a zero can make. Oooops!

Nice story, but anecdotal rather than real I think. Scampton did not have any Tornados in 2013. Furthermore, much more detail would have been given. Wickenby airspace is not controlled either (as is Scampton and Waddington).
