Plot Summery: An unlikely kind of friendship develops between Fergus, an Irish Republican Army volunteer, and Jody, a kidnapped British soldier lured into a trap by Jude, another IRA member. When the hostage-taking ends up going horribly wrong, Fergus escapes and heads to London where he seeks out Jody's lover, a hairdresser named Dil. Fergus adopts the name "Jimmy" and gets a job as a laborer. He also starts seeing Dil, who knows nothing about Fergus' IRA background. But there are some things about Dil that Fergus doesn't know either...
Patrick's comments: This haunting, humourous and shocking romantic thriller by Neil Jordan is a multi-Oscar®-winning masterpiece. Everyone was talking about it in the early nineties and it was, at the time, the film that Broadbent was best remembered for (while I just knew him as an amusing chap on the radio who regularly appeared with the likes of Stephen Fry!) Jim plays Col, the unshaven bar tender at the Exotic London club, 'The Metro'.
